After these is the low hill that is down as Brodgar Farm cairn  and may be broch remains. After this comes the hillock/rise on which stand the Lochview Standing Stones.

  31. Site Name: Graystane / Haybreck, The Gray Stone (Menhir) Town: Kirkwall   Village: Orphir. Lat: 58.939810N  Long: 3.118973W. Condition: 4 Ambience: 4 Access: 3 Accuracy: 4   After the pumping station at Kirbister Mill the Orphir road continues past the junction with the loch road. On the left there is a small post box at the top of the Smoogro road. Continue along the Orphir road and look for Highbreck on your right – it is the first dwelling you come to. On the opposite side of the road to this the stone is about 25 fence lengths further on (or perhaps you would prefer to count ten lengths from the beck further along if approaching in the other direction). The supposed boulder is at about 45 degrees to the road. It is difficult to get a closer view owing to the steepness of the bank and the fence (thankfully plain) being hard against the field boundary. Edge carefully down as there are only two levels you can stand on. Hold tight on the fence and view along this. The very clean shoulder looks as if someone has tried to split the stone but been prevented by hitting a harder section. Maybe not your average standing stone, but decidedly a queer proportion as regards its geometry for an erratic.

  34. Mine Howe / Minehowe (chambered cairn)  Mainland Lat: 938638N  Long: 2.851977W. Condition: 3 Ambience: 3 Access: 3 Accuracy: 4    Head out to the airport and past it you will come to the Mine Howe site on the left. Little to be seen on the surface apart from where they have exposed a section of ditch, above which lies the entrance to the famous bit. Not recommended for those prone to bad backs if my experience is anything to go by.
